Arnaud Desplechin started his career in 1991 with a medium-length film, LA VIE DES MORTS. His first feature film LA SENTINELLE was selected in Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival (where he returned seven times).
After that, he directed COMMENT JE ME SUIS DISPUTÉ… (MA VIE SEXUELLE) which revealed a whole generation of new talents. His actors often receive prestigious awards – including the César for Best Actor for Mathieu Amalric in ROIS ET REINES, the 61st Cannes Film Festival Prize for Catherine Deneuve in UN CONTE DE NOËL or the César for Best Actor for Roschdy Zem in ROUBAIX, UNE LUMIÈRE.
In 2015 he received the César for Best Director for TROIS SOUVENIRS DE MA JEUNESSE.
LES FANTÔMES D’ISMAËL, with Mathieu Amalric, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Marion Cotillard opens the Cannes Film Festival in 2017.
His first theatre play, PÈRE D’AUGUST STRINDBERG was a great success at the Comédie-Française – he will return there in 2020 with the adaptation of Tony Kushner’s ANGELS IN AMERICA.
