Born in Buffalo (New York), Michael Lawrence is an award-winning director and photographer whose work reflects an exhilarating skillset and approach to the craft. He has developed a unique voice through his diverse background and life experience, heavily influenced by his passion for having a hand at the core of creating. He calls it the ultimate creative triangle; optimising production by combining directing, shooting and photographing. Michael’s technical and creative approach, which enables him to speak holistically about the project at hand, has become his signature.
His films are visceral, immersive and iconic as a result of his interest in humanity that imbues every story with uniquely astute visuals and human depth.
Challenging what is expected of advertising with an emotional rawness and intimacy, the multi-faceted director has garnered acclaim at Cannes, D&AD, Ciclope, the Clios and multiple creative awards shows worldwide. He has directed and photographed campaigns for some of the world’s leading brands, including Nike, Reebok, Chevrolet, Nespresso, Powerade, and Google, with some of the most awarded agencies – Wieden & Kennedy, Anomaly, Sid Lee, 72 & Sunny, BBH, Mother and AKQA, to mention a few. His images have been featured in NYTimes Magazine, WRPD, Fader, VICE, Pitchfork, and Indie Magazine.
Motivated by people and driven by collaboration, he thrives on juggling personal artistic projects alongside commissioned work in various forms.
